Job Summary: The Transportation Manager plays a critical role in the daily management and strategic planning of the Transportation Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Transportation, this position ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and the continuous improvement of transportation services. The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing departmental staff, developing procedures to enhance productivity, and collaborating with leadership to implement strategic objectives.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations within the Transportation Department to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Work closely with the Director of Transportation on operational planning and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare and present reports on department performance and operational needs.
- Develop and implement strategies, procedures, and business plans to support department growth.
- Conduct employee evaluations and implement corrective action plans as necessary.
- Oversee training programs for CDL drivers and school bus drivers, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records as required by local, state, and federal guidelines for CDL holders, including MAP-21, FMCSA, and Arizona DOT CDL standards.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Approve purchases within budgetary constraints and company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations related to school bus transportation and maintenance.
- Coordinate in-service training and professional development activities for transportation personnel.
- Oversee transportation programs for instructional and extracurricular activities as outlined by district procedures.
- Maintain communication between staff, parents, and relevant agencies to address transportation concerns.
- Assist in forecasting future transportation needs based on student population trends.
- Keep the Director of Transportation informed about program-related activities, challenges, and opportunities.
- Stay informed on industry developments through professional development activities.
- Uphold safety standards in accordance with regulatory and insurance requirements.
- Produce high-quality written materials for staff communication and training.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising transportation personnel, making recommendations for employment, promotion, and discipline.
- Support discipline procedures related to student conduct on buses, collaborating with school officials.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
- 5+ years of administrative leadership in student transportation (Required)
- Experience in staff supervision and training (Required)
- Experience creating and maintaining CDL training programs (Required)
- Clean driving and background record (Certified 39-month MVR) (Required)
- Commercial Driver’s License with:
- S (School Bus) Endorsement (Required)
- P (Passenger) Endorsement (Required)
- Air Brakes (Preferred)
Other Requirements
- Ability to pass a Department of Public Safety (DPS) physical agility test.
- Flexibility to work in various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
- Willingness to work outside normal hours as needed.
- Work Environment / Physical Activities
- Frequent standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
- Regular use of hands, including significant finger dexterity.
- Occasional lifting/moving of 20+ pounds.
Work may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions and hazardous materials such as fuel fumes and vehicle fluids.
