Job Title:
HOURLY – ETM (Experimental Transmission Mechanic)
Job Description:
General Description
- Assembles and disassembles complex experimental and development transmissions.
- Uses machine shop equipment to accomplish rework of transmissions, to aid assembly, and/or provide instrumentation of experimental transmissions.
- Participates with engineers, technicians and other engineering personnel in problem solving by recording visual inspection results and measured dimensions of experimental test hardware
- May be required to document transmission configuration, incidents, and historical parts information.
Required Qualifications
- Must have completed a formal apprenticeship OR have equivalent training to qualify as a Journeyman.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of a wide variety of transmissions and their functions and extensive experience with unique tools required to assemble on-of-a-kind components, sub-assemblies, and complete transmissions.
- Experience necessary to set up and operate a variety of machine tools.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, assembly drawings, and sketches and have a working knowledge of shop math.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and SAP.
- A&P license preferred
Working conditions and hazards
- Maintain good shop conditions.
- Some contact with oil, grease, and cleaning solvents.
- Will be required to handle parts and sub-assemblies of all sizes and weights, both manually and with hoists, powered vehicles, or other handling equipment.
- Some operation of shop equipment requires attention to proper use of eye protection, clothing, and safety features provided.
