Managing Counsel, Litigation
Lucid is seeking a highly qualified, complex commercial litigation attorney to join its legal team as Managing Counsel- Litigation.
The Managing Counsel of Litigation will manage a wide range of litigation and pre-litigation matters. The attorney is expected to have significant experience with complex commercial litigation, temporary restraining orders, and attorney demand letters. The person will be the primary point person on handling supplier and vendor disputes and should also have experience in, or be interested in learning, employment litigation and bankruptcy litigation. The person will also supervise the Company’s eDiscovery and legal holds processes.
Within the Company, the Managing Counsel of Litigation will work in close partnership with cross-functional teams to handle, manage, and resolve litigation. The role will work closely with numerous stakeholders across the legal function. This is a mid-level role, and the person is expected to have a strong foundation in complex commercial litigation.
You Will
- Have significant experience drafting motions, briefs, and talking points; taking and defending depositions; and preferably also doing oral arguments.
- Have strong writing skills.
- Oversee and manage a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters.
- Partner with the Supply Chain and Commercial teams to respond to supplier disputes and act as primary litigation support for issues impacting the Supply Chain team, including handling actions for specific performance and emergency relief through temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, or similar methods.
- Analyze commercial contracts and respond to attorney demand letters without the assistance of outside counsel.
- Function as a generalist and litigation counsel and work on other litigation-related matters, such as settlement recommendations, litigation risk analyses, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Have experience in, or be interested in learning about, employment litigation and bankruptcy litigation.
- Be in charge of building out the Company’s eDiscovery and legal holds processes.
- Manage outside counsel to ensure top-notch representation and handling of litigation and disputes.
- Partner with other legal colleagues and business stakeholders to effectively manage day-to-day activities for disputes, litigation matters, and pre-litigation disputes.
- Partner with internal stakeholders regarding insurance coverage and strategy and coordinate with insurance carriers on litigation coverage and defense.
- Support the development of processes, procedures, and metrics to increase the overall effectiveness of the legal services provided to the company, including evaluation of litigation metrics and outside counsel success.
- Maintain generalized knowledge of litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes and monitor litigation trends and developments related to the EV industry.
- Collaborate with members of the legal team to complete general legal projects and initiatives.
You Bring
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of general litigation experience. Significant complex commercial litigation experience is required.
- Strong writing skills.
- Experience managing discovery.
- AmLaw 100 law firm experience preferred.
- Experience in both State and Federal Court.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a concise format.
- Practical business judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects.
- Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively, being resourceful, and taking on additional responsibility.
- Law degree (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited institution.
- California bar license or ability to register as California Registered In-House Counsel.
Preferred Requirements
- At least 1 year of in-house experience.
- Previous experience supporting supply chain and handling supply chain disputes, including handling international disputes and actions for specific performance and emergency relief through temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, or similar methods.
- Employment litigation and bankruptcy litigation experience.
- Experience building eDiscovery teams and processes.
