California (near a major metro) · Remote, field-based · Full-time · 3+ years of experience
EV.Careers is currently seeking a full-time, direct-hire Account Executive, Residential & C&I Energy Storage, for one of our partners that is a next-generation manufacturer of modular battery energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. In this position, you will open California as a new territory: build your own pipeline of direct customers, EPCs, developers, and channel partners, own the full sales cycle from first prospecting call to signed contract, and turn California's complex rate and incentive landscape into a clear return-on-investment case that customers can defend.
This is a quota-carrying, self-sourcing seat with real ownership of a statewide territory that you get to build from the ground up. You will work closely with engineering and product, help shape how the commercial motion runs, and earn uncapped commission that rewards closers, all while working on a differentiated storage platform at the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and emerging technology.
Responsibilities
- Open and own California as a new territory, selling to commercial and industrial customers (with residential upside).
- Build a self-sourced pipeline of direct customers, EPCs, developers, and channel partners, and run the full cycle from prospecting to close.
- Turn California's policy and rate landscape into a clear ROI case: demand-charge savings, time-of-use (TOU) arbitrage, SGIP incentives, the federal ITC, resilience value, and virtual power plant (VPP) revenue.
- Lead proposals, pricing, and negotiations in partnership with engineering and product.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years selling energy storage, solar, or distributed energy, with hands-on battery storage experience. This is a battery-focused seat, not a general sales role.
- Working, day-one fluency in California's storage policy and rate landscape: Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0), SGIP, Title 24, Rule 21, and CAISO demand-response programs. You will use this from your first week, so it needs to be real experience, not something to learn on the job.
- Consultative and technically credible, comfortable leading proposals, pricing, and negotiations alongside engineering.
- Quota-driven, with a proven self-sourcing, full-cycle approach (prospecting through close).
- Based in California within about an hour of a major metro (Bay Area or San Jose, Los Angeles, or San Diego), able to travel to customers across the state.
Preferred Qualifications
- An existing California network you can convert into pipeline from day one: EPCs, developers, suppliers, commercial real estate (CRE), ESCOs, and community choice aggregators (CCAs).
- Ability to also cover residential storage alongside the core C&I focus.
- A track record of translating tariffs and incentives into financeable ROI for customers and their capital partners.
Benefits
- Base salary in the 90,000 to 100,000 range, plus uncapped commission (5 percent of contract margin, paid as deals are collected). Realistic Year 1 on-target earnings around 200,000 for an experienced closer with an existing California network.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k), equity, and paid time off.
- Direct access to leadership, real-world deployment projects, and the chance to build a statewide territory from scratch at a company where your wins move the needle.
- Work on a battery-agnostic storage platform engineered to deliver significantly more usable capacity from a wide range of battery chemistries.
