【Position Summary】
Given the immense complexity of the Brazilian tax system — one of the most intricate in the world — XPeng is investing in a robust Local Tax Manager to navigate both direct and indirect taxes across federal, state, and municipal layers. This professional will ensure smooth compliance for our CBU and SKD/CKD import operations, optimise the tax structure for our distribution and dealer network, and serve as the trusted advisor to business leadership on supply-chain tax decisions.
This is a senior standalone role — you are the only in-country tax professional for Brazil. Brazil's tax system is among the most complex in the world, and you will be expected to navigate it with deep technical autonomy, supported by the HQ Global Tax Team in Guangzhou, China, and a designated external advisor. Comfort with operating as a "one-person tax function" in a highly complex jurisdiction is essential.
【Key Responsibilities】
1. Indirect Tax Excellence
- Manage the highly complex indirect tax stack: ICMS (state), IPI (federal), PIS, COFINS, and ISS (municipal), ensuring accurate calculation, optimisation, and compliance across state lines and across multiple tax regimes (cumulativo vs. non-cumulativo).
- Oversee ICMS-ST (substituição tributária), ICMS Difal, and benefits such as PRODEPE / PRODUZIR / FUMACAR (state automotive incentives) where applicable.
- Monitor and implement changes from ECF (Reforma Tributária — consumption tax reform) and other ongoing tax-reform projects.
2. Direct Tax & SPED Management
- Oversee corporate income taxes (IRPJ and CSLL), including the Lucro Real / Lucro Presumido / Lucro Arbitrado election and quarterly estimates.
- Ensure flawless execution and transmission of SPED filings: ECF, ECD, EFD-Contribuições, EFD-ICMS/IPI, EFD-Reinf, and eSocial.
3. Supply Chain & Customs
- Advise on the tax implications of importing vehicles, parts, and equipment, including Ex-Tarifário, drawback, and RECOF (regime aduaneiro especial) structures.
- Optimise customs duties, transfer pricing, and tax incentives related to manufacturing/automotive sectors.
- Partner with the supply chain and logistics team to evaluate tax impact of warehouse locations, distribution models, and commercial agreements.
4. Strategic Advisory
- Partner with the business to evaluate the tax impact of local distribution, logistics hubs, and commercial contracts.
- Build a 12-month rolling view of tax legislative changes that could affect XPeng Brazil and proactively communicate to leadership.
5. HQ Collaboration & Global Reporting
- Align with HQ on global compliance initiatives, including monthly reporting packages and Pillar 2 data collection.
- Coordinate with HQ on intercompany agreements (cost sharing, royalties, services) from the Brazil side.
- Support the global tax-controls framework and internal-audit reviews.
6. Stakeholder & External Advisor Management
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors (Big-4 / local SPED specialists), and federal/state tax authorities.
- As the sole in-country tax professional in one of the world's most complex tax jurisdictions, building and managing a high-performing external advisor panel is a core part of this role — typically a Big-4 for indirect-tax controversy and SPED, with a local firm for routine compliance.
- Define the split of work between in-house and external advisor; be the one accountable for the advisor's output.
- Proactively engage HQ Global Tax on complex matters (e.g., Reforma Tributária transition planning, large ICMS/IPI assessments, transfer pricing controversy) — flag risks early and align on positions before acting.
【Qualifications & Experience】
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Law, or Economics. Specialisation in Brazilian Tax is a must (e.g., pós-graduação in tributário or MBA with tax focus).
2. 6–8 years of tax experience in Brazil, with solid exposure to complex supply chain, import, or automotive environments. Big-4 experience in Brazil tax compliance is a plus.
5. Expertise in SPED systems (ECF, ECD, EFD-Contribuições, EFD-ICMS/IPI) and deep familiarity with state-level tax variations (ICMS) across at least the main states (SP, RJ, MG, BA, PR).
6. Demonstrated experience managing indirect-tax controversy (ICMS auto de infração, PIS/COFINS exclusão do ICMS, etc.) and winning positions at the CARF or state-level administrative level.
7. Strong IT affinity — comfortable with SPED transmission tools, ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / TOTVS), and BI/reporting tools.
【Languages & Soft Skills】
1. Fluent in Portuguese and English (professional working proficiency) — Portuguese for federal/state authorities, English for HQ and group reporting.
2. Spanish is a plus (Latin America regional coordination).
3. Mandarin is a strong plus (not required) — XPeng is a Chinese-headquartered global EV company.
4. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a fast-growing, rapidly-changing business environment.
5. Excellent written communication — able to write clear, defensible technical memos and translate complex topics for non-tax business partners.
