Job Summary
Our Engineering team at the Livewire Labs facility located in Milwaukee, WI has an opening for a Software Engineer – Powertrain Integration. This position requires a relentless drive to success while working in an efficient, dynamic, and agile systems focused engineering environment. Are you ready to join us?
This engineer will design, develop, implement, test and release powertrain software for LiveWire’s commercial products. The ideal person will be self-motivated to engage with all stakeholders and develop their own vision and plans for how to execute projects to completion. Hands-on, they will take pride in demonstrating their software solutions themselves via working demonstrations and functioning products.
Responsibilities
- Versatile end-to-end delivery of software features and functions across different ECUs within the powertrain system
- Lead development of onboard and offboard charging software that efficiently integrates with internal vehicle, internal battery and external infrastructure software systems. This includes:
- Integration, testing, validation, and root-cause analysis.
- Charging control strategies, diagnostics, fault handling, thermal management, and performance monitoring
- CAN communications, DTCs, DIDs, CDD/DBC management, diagnostic NVM data logging and manufacturing/EOL test support
- Work with sub-system ECU software engineers to bring full system software functions to fruition
- Lead integration of externally developed ECUs with internal LiveWire software systems
- Support over-the-air software update development, testing, and deployment from the ECU perspective.
- Investigate and proto-type software solutions for: (i) mobile application ECU tuning; (ii) low-cost and innovative telematics solutions
Education Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer/Software/Automotive related engineering – a focus on Embedded Controllers / Electric Vehicles is preferred
Experience Required
- 3+ years of experience developing and validating embedded automotive software, preferably in diagnostics, powertrain, EV, connected vehicle, or infotainment systems.
- Strong understanding of EV systems, including battery management, high-voltage architecture, motor controls, power conversion, and vehicle charging systems.
- Proficiency in embedded software development using C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and model-based development tools.
- Experience with automotive diagnostics, ECU architectures, and vehicle communication protocols, including CAN, LIN, J1939, OBD-II, and UDS.
- Hands-on experience with vehicle testing, debugging, and calibration using data acquisition tools, oscilloscopes, and laboratory or in-vehicle test environments.
- Knowledge of software development processes, version control (Git), Agile methodologies, cybersecurity principles, and functional safety standards such as ISO 26262.
- Experience with charging protocols (e.g., ISO 15118) is a plus.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in a cross-functional engineering environment.
