What To Expect
We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Compliance Manager to lead the regulatory compliance function within our electricity supply operations. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, this role is responsible for the compliance and risk management framework across our retail supply business in Great Britain. You will act as the internal authority on GB electricity supply regulation, ensuring the business operates in full alignment with Ofgem's requirements, industry codes, and licence conditions. You will work closely with Operations, Commercial, Legal, and Customer teams to embed a compliance-first culture while enabling the business to grow and innovate with confidence. This is a high-impact role for a regulatory professional who is proactive, pragmatic, and passionate about the energy transition – someone who can translate complex regulatory obligations into clear operational requirements.
What You'll Do
Regulatory Compliance & Licence Obligations
Own and maintain the business's compliance framework, ensuring ongoing adherence to the Electricity Supply Licence Conditions, Ofgem Standards of Conduct, and all applicable regulatory obligations.Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory changes from Ofgem, DESNZ, and industry bodies, assessing impact on operations and driving timely implementation.Manage the business's obligations under key industry codes including the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC), Retail Energy Code (REC), Smart Energy Code (SEC), and the Connections Use of System Code (CUSC).Maintain an up-to-date regulatory obligation register and ensure internal policies, procedures, and controls reflect current requirements.Act as the primary point of contact for Ofgem and other regulatory bodies, managing information requests, reporting obligations, and audit processes.
Risk Management
Define and manage the compliance risk framework, identifying, assessing, and mitigating regulatory risks across all areas of the retail supply business.Proactively escalate material compliance risks to the Head of Operations and senior leadership, providing clear recommendations and options.Support dispute resolution and regulatory investigations, including any matters relating to fines, penalties, or enforcement action.Track and monitor all compliance deadlines, submissions, and reporting obligations to ensure nothing is missed.
Operational Integration
Work with Operations, Customer Service, Billing, and Commercial teams to design and embed compliant end-to-end processes.Develop and deliver internal compliance training, ensuring all relevant staff understand their regulatory obligations.Lead and support internal compliance audits, identifying gaps and driving corrective action plans.Streamline and automate compliance processes where possible to reduce administrative burden and improve accuracy.
Stakeholder & Industry Engagement
Engage proactively with industry working groups, trade bodies (e.g. Energy UK), and code administrators to represent the business's interests and monitor policy developments.Contribute to consultations, industry code modifications, and regulatory reviews relevant to the electricity supply market.Build and maintain strong relationships with Ofgem and other external stakeholders.

Ofgem Supply Licence Conditions: Standard and Special Conditions, including consumer protection and billing obligations.Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC): Settlement processes, metering data, and associated obligations for licensed suppliers.Retail Energy Code (REC): Switching, registration, and industry data flows under the new retail code framework.Smart Energy Code (SEC): Smart metering obligations, Data Communications Company (DCC) connectivity, and SMETS2 rollout requirements.Standards of Conduct: Ofgem's Standards of Conduct and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) obligations.Vulnerability & Consumer Protection: The Ability to Pay framework, Priority Services Register (PSR), and debt management obligations.Capacity Market & Levy Obligations: Including Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed-in Tariff (FiT) legacy obligations, and Contracts for Difference (CfD) supplier requirements.GDPR & Data Protection: Data handling obligations in the context of energy supply customer data.
Essential
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a compliance, regulatory affairs, or risk management role within a GB licensed electricity supplier.Demonstrable knowledge of Ofgem's regulatory framework, including Supply Licence Conditions, industry codes, and consumer protection rules.Proven ability to interpret and operationalise complex regulatory obligations across a business.Strong stakeholder management skills – able to work effectively across internal teams and with external regulators.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear compliance reporting and policy documentation.Proven experience managing compliance risk registers, audit processes, and regulatory reporting.Self-starter with the ability to manage a wide portfolio of compliance issues simultaneously.Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable
Experience working with or for Ofgem, or a regulatory body.Familiarity with energy industry codes including BSC, REC, CUSC, and SEC.Experience in a scale-up or growth-stage electricity supplier.Knowledge of smart metering obligations and DCC processes.Relevant professional qualification.Exposure to Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programmes or behind-the-meter aggregation compliance.
