At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
Who We Are Looking For
Slate is seeking a technical, dynamic, and experienced Senior Project Quality Engineer to join our growing team. This role will serve as the Quality lead for Audio, Tech, and Lighting (ATL) accessory systems—spanning in-cabin audio components, infotainment and connectivity accessories, exterior and interior lighting systems, and associated electrical interfaces—where deep engagement with engineering, software, and manufacturing teams is essential to delivering the highest levels of product and process quality. The successful candidate will bring hands-on expertise in DFMEA development, Design Verification Planning, and structured problem-solving methodologies to drive robust designs from concept through launch.
What You Get To Do
- Lead product quality development for ATL Accessories —including audio speakers and amplifiers, infotainment and connectivity modules, exterior and interior lighting assemblies, and electrical harness interfaces—ensuring functional integrity, dimensional precision, and long-term durability.
- Support and facilitate the development of DFMEAs and DVP&Rs, applying AIAG-VDA methodology including Action Priority (AP) ratings; drive closure of high-priority risk items through rigorous validation planning and problem issue tracking.
- Partner with Engineering teams to support DFM/DFA reviews, GD&T assessments, and tolerance stack-up analysis for ATL systems and their vehicle integration interfaces.
- Apply robust problem-solving methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, 3 Legged 5 Why) to resolve chronic quality issues, reduce variation, and accelerate root cause resolution across audio, tech, and lighting accessory programs.
- Lead APQP deliverables for ATL systems/parts and collaborate to ensure timely supplier PPAP submissions, validation, compliance and performance verification.
- Support requirements development, functional objectives and special characteristics aligned with regulatory standards, customer expectations, and strategic program targets.
- Define and maintain quality technical standards, inspection criteria, and process controls for ATL system integration.
- Track, report, and drive closure on ATL-related dimensional, functional, and reliability quality issues through DVP test results, issue management, warranty data review, and structured corrective action.
- Mentor and support team members in quality tools and methodologies; foster a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring To The Team
You will be a key member of a high-functioning quality team as we scale Accessory development and bring innovative, personalized vehicle experiences to market.

- Demonstrated experience with automotive-grade audio systems, exterior/interior lighting modules, or connected vehicle technologies in a production program context.
Technical Expertise
- Deep, hands-on knowledge FMEA development and facilitation.
- Proficient in Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) development, test sequencing, and managing validation outcomes for EE systems.
- Working knowledge of automotive lighting regulatory requirements (FMVSS 108, SAE J578/J1455, ECE R48) and audio/acoustic performance standards.
- Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) requirements, connector and harness standards, and IP/ingress protection ratings for lighting and audio assemblies.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities (e.g.) Six Sigma (DMAIC/DFSS), Shainin Red X, 3 Legged 5 Whys.
- Good GD&T knowledge; interpretation of drawings, assessing manufacturability, and perform tolerance and interface analysis for ATL system mounting and integration.
- Proficient in quality tools (e.g.) APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, and control plans.
- Experience with issue management and requirements traceability.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Proven track record of leading new program quality deliverables on time while achieving launch readiness metrics.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills with the assertiveness to drive accountability across cross-functional and supplier teams.
