What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Tesla Energy Team in Hayward, CA. You will manage the knowledge base for various commercial and charging products, with a focus on process, software, and product content for an internal audience.
As a technical writer supporting business operations, you will need to develop a strong understanding of how Tesla’s energy business operates and interacts with various internal software systems. By using in-house tools, partnering with project or program managers from service, quality, and design, and working collaboratively with diagnostics, training, technical operations, and other teams, you will contribute to the growth and acceleration of various products such as Megapacks and Superchargers.
What You'll Do
Communicate and collaborate with subject matter experts (project managers, technicians, and product managers) to build strong working relationships and gather informationUnderstand business processes and systems and communicate them effectively to non-technical peopleValidate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approvalEdit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standardsOptimize content for AI parsing by implementing consistent structure, adding metadata, and consistently updating content for accuracyMigrate content to new templates or knowledge management systemsManage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases)
What You'll Bring
Degree in English, Technical/Professional Writing, Communications, or equivalent experience2+ years of Technical Writing experience in a high-tech environment collaborating with technical subject matter experts, or in a similar product-focused roleExperience using AI applications in daily life or in the work environment, and a curiosity about leveraging and improving themCheerful outlook and flexibility toward frequent change and inevitable mid-project priority modificationsFamiliarity or experience with Sharepoint, HTML, XML, and DITAAbility to manage multiple documentation projects by addressing priorities and following processesExperience creating visual content that directly goes with text within documents, such as taking photographs and editing them to include callouts and zoom-ins, and/or pulling images from engineering databases

Expected Compensation
$68,000 - $126,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
