Tesla is seeking an ambitious EHS Specialist to support the Powertrain Operations at Gigafactory Texas. They will use human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, training, and a systems-level problem solving.
The candidate will be responsible for complex technical work across a broad range of EHS disciplines with an emphasis on reducing risk, empowering stakeholders, and doing the basics right. They will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal, industry and consensus standards, as appropriate.
What You'll Do
Drive one of more manufacturing department EHS outcomes through leadership and employee engagement in alignment with the business and EHS strategiesActively work with factory stakeholders to ensure that Production and Factory changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environmentPerform audits and inspections, document results, and verify action closureAnalyze event trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness and environmental impact eventsFacilitate investigations from a Learning Teams approach, ensuring worker involvement and that preventative actions address system causes and not just individual behaviorsParticipate in pre-job planning and verification of controls/safeguards before new, high risk, and non-standard work beginsPartner with EHS specialties (Environmental, Construction Safety, Equipment Safety, EHS Systems and Tools, EHS Training, etc.) as needed to ensure effective service delivery
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or equivalent experience At least 2 years of experience as an environmental, health or safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, or similar workplaceExperience supporting EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change to reduce risk and improve outcomes Experience with hazard analysis methods, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, event/incident investigation and learnings, and corrective action managementFamiliarity with industrial hygiene, industrial ergonomics, machine safety, environmental compliance processesAbility to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and deadlines Experience working with cross functional teams effectively thanks to teamwork, bias-toward action, front-loaded accountability, and empathy
