The Role
We are seeking an experienced Director, EV Operations Center (EVOC) to lead and oversee all aspects of our EVOC operations supporting commuter shuttle services. This position will be responsible for the end-to-end operations of a multi-vehicle fixed-route EV program, ensuring fleet readiness, route optimization, and daily operational excellence. The Director will manage a multi-level team of managers, charging specialists, and drivers, ensuring seamless execution of all EVOC activities and alignment with client expectations.
The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing operations for fleets ranging from 40–200 vehicles, preferably with exposure to EV or mixed-fleet environments, and a strong background in operational software tools. This includes experience with trip management software, EV charging technology, and operational dashboards used to monitor fleet performance, charging status, and system health. Experience in charging facility management, fleet electrification infrastructure, and working directly with drivers and maintenance teams is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the EV Operations Center (EVOC), ensuring operational excellence, reliability, and safety of all commuter shuttle EV services.
- Manage day-to-day operations of EVOC, including vehicle readiness, charging schedules, route assignments, and performance optimization.
- Supervise and develop a multi-level team of managers, charging specialists, and drivers to deliver best-in-class EVOC services.
- Oversee all aspects of EV charging assets, ensuring proper maintenance, efficient utilization, and readiness for operations.
- Leverage trip management software and EV charging dashboards to optimize fleet scheduling, track real-time performance, and resolve operational issues.
- Implement and monitor operational KPIs using system dashboards and reports to ensure EVOC performance meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to troubleshoot issues, resolve operational challenges, and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements for EVOC operations.
- Contribute to long-term planning for EVOC expansion, including scaling fleet size, adding charging capacity, and integrating new technologies.
- Foster strong relationships with OEMs, charging hardware and software providers, utility partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to the AVP, Commuter Shuttle, and senior leadership on EVOC performance and opportunities.
- Travel as required (10-15%) to operational sites and client locations to provide leadership presence and support.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive day to day transportation management experience of fixed route transportation systems.
- Bachelor’s degree desirable in Transportation Management, Business Operations, Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in fleet operations, ideally in EV or mixed-fleet environments managing 40–200+ vehicles.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws.
- Knowledge of both fixed route management and safety practices associated with the transit industry.
- Thorough knowledge of laws, ordinances and regulations underlying the transit operation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent presentation skills; ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of leading multi-level teams, including managers, technicians, and drivers in an operational context.
- Hands-on experience with trip management software, EV charging technology, and system dashboards to monitor and optimize fleet and charging performance.
- Ability to drive operational efficiency, manage budgets, and deliver high-quality services in a client-facing environment.
