Position Summary:
EVgo is seeking a
Quality Engineering Intern to support our efforts in
failure analysis (FA) and
OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) testing. This internship is ideal for an engineering student with an interest in electric vehicle charging, electronics, or communications protocols. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers to diagnose field issues and validate interoperability of our charging systems with backend networks.
This is a summer internship, 10-weeks, 40-hours per week. Intern must reside locally and work from EVgo's lab in El Segundo, CA for the duration of the internship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in root cause analysis of field-returned EV charging sub components.
- Support OCPP communication testing (OCPP 1.6J or 2.0.1), including capturing and analyzing protocol-level logs.
- Help create, execute, and document test cases for EVSE charger behavior and backend interaction.
- Use tools such as Wireshark, Quality logic and backend log viewers to troubleshoot communication issues.
- Document findings in concise technical reports and present results to cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, support, and supplier teams to follow up on test results and field issues.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical/electronic components and circuits.
- Interest or exposure to communication protocols (e.g., WebSocket, JSON, TCP/IP).
- Comfortable using basic lab equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and ask good technical questions.
A Plus If You Have the Following Skills:
- Familiarity with OCPP, EV charging, or embedded systems.
- Experience with Python, log analysis tools, or scripting.
- Coursework in digital communications, networking, or power electronics.
The hourly pay for this position is $22.00 per hour.
