Technology Strategist WHAT YOU WILL DO Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to support its strategic growth in advanced technology development and technology scouting in North America.
Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), whose brands include Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, has emerged as a leader in the global automotive industry, ranking 3rd in global sales and 4th in U.S. sales. HATCI is the design, technology, and engineering division of HMG for North America. The HATCI Technology Strategy team supports and catalyzes HATCI’s growth in advanced technology development, technology scouting, and innovation for North America.
As a Technology Strategist within the Technology Strategy team, you will lead efforts aimed at planning, prioritizing, and coordinating HATCI’s advanced technology development efforts, as well as play a critical role in the scouting of new technologies in North America. In this role you will work closely with all of HATCI’s engineering teams, the Product Strategy team, the Regulation and Certification team, and regional affiliates responsible for sales, marketing, and manufacturing.
NOTE: Multiple positions are available; team members will be involved in all of the below tasks, with responsibilities distributed based upon each individual’s expertise and experience.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT • Coordinate all internal advanced development (also referred to as advanced engineering and R&D) activities, including internal roadmap development, project status tracking, working-level information exchanges, and executive-level report-outs.
• Prioritize advanced technology development project proposals, considering technical feasibility, market impact, and internal alignment.
• Coordinate and conduct technology scouting, summarizing information in report-outs and working with engineering teams and affiliates to translate high-potential items into internal action.
• Create regular reports on emerging technologies and trends.
• Support innovation and analysis activities aimed at identifying new technology and feature opportunities.
Travel up to 20% domestic and international
• Proactively propose and execute “value added” activities that deliver strategic insights to internal stakeholders.
• Support internal company-wide technology showcases and exhibits.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE Required:
•EITHER 3 years of automotive industry experience OR a graduate degree in an automotive-relevant field
•Ability to attend video conferences with colleagues from other time zones as needed (typically 1-2x per month from 7-8pm US Eastern time)
•Ability to travel up to 20% of time domestically and internationally
•An open mind, a passion for technology, and the desire to help Hyundai Motor Group become a leading global smart mobility provider
•Technical expertise in an automotive-relevant area
•The ability to work independently and in small teams in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Proficiency with MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel
Desired:
•7+ years of automotive industry experience
•Graduate degree in an automotive-relevant field
•Experience working at, or engaging with, startups and established automotive suppliers
•Experience assessing the technical feasibility and market viability of technologies
•Experience developing long-term technology development roadmaps
•A broad understanding of the automotive technical, regulatory, and market landscape
•Experience supporting the development of an automotive technology from initial concept to high-volume production
•A proven track record organizing and leading large open-ended projects in a time- and resource-constrained environment, even when required contributors are not under direct control
•The ability to distill complex information into understandable visuals and actionable strategic recommendations
•A proven ability to deliver presentations and written material at a level appropriate for senior executive audiences
•Experience with patents and IP-related issues
•Familiarity with structured innovation techniques to develop products or services
•Experience with the following: Tableau, PowerBI, MS Copilot, Notion, Confluence, Smartsheets
•Ability to read / speak Korean
