On-site: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM’s Battery Cell Manufacturing Facility in New Carlisle, Indiana on a full-time basis.
About Synergy Cells
Synergy Cells is looking for talented individuals to support our Joint Venture between General Motors and Samsung SDI. In this new high-technology facility, Synergy Cells will cultivate the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. With an investment of over $3.5 billion, Synergy Cells will be producing battery cells for GM electric vehicles.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn new skills as well as influence processes and systems that will sustain industry leading performance. This role will be onsite and support our facility in New Carlisle, Indiana.
The Role:
The Quality Operations Manager has responsibility for a large group of employees tasked with executing the Global Quality System within the plant. Within the department, they will be working to coach and teach the Quality Operations Team on how to function within a BIQ IV environment, while also ensuring the integrity of the Quality System being exercised within the production departments. Core responsibility of this role involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and acting as the voice of the customer. Additionally, it is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment as well as the ability to develop strong relationships across the functional areas and within the JV environment.
What You'll Do:
- Manages quality floor operations
- Promotes, educates, communicates, and follows up on safety initiatives
- Maintains safety culture through leadership behaviors, audits, observations, and incident investigation
- Assist in obtaining resources to effectively perform operations
- Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)
- Knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes/controls, and management systems as they relate to production operations
- Must be willing to rotate shifts or work extended hours to ensure quality alignment across all shifts
- Must communicate status/activities across shifts
- Champion of allocated BPD activities
- Champion 5F meetings and cross functional problem solving
- Allocate manpower as needed. Plan release for training
- Lead shift meetings for SPQRC
- Execute CIP workshops in the areas of Quality & Cost
- Support unit manager to resolve manpower issues in conjunction with union.
- Manages budget and achievement of productivity improvements
- Ensure cost control achieves budget needs
- Approve PPAP activities related to launch and/or product/process change, taking a lead role in PPAP activities
- Ensure Synergy Cells compliance with GM Supplier Quality requirements
- Perform other ad hoc extra-circular responsibilities and tasks as needed for successful launch of overall facility operations
- Deals with ambiguity effectively and demonstrates agility in challenging circumstances
- Strong ability to influence without authority, which is critical in the JV environment
- Proven people skills; building and leading effective teams and building relationships
- Coach and influence others through problem solving
Additional Job Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Management
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership/supervisor role
- Previous experience with manufacturing or product quality standards/requirements
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to have critical/crucial conversations to overcome objections and roadblocks
