Responsibilities:
- Evaluate utility SOPs and options for EVgo for infrastructure design from the Grid POI through to our customer’s vehicle including the XFMR, SWBD, mains breaker, secondary breakers, and array of EVSE charging sets. This will include requirements coordination, specification ownership, and review of operating data to enforce reliability and up-time requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and lead what's possible in power efficiency, contributing to strategic advances in power management, predictive maintenance, and alignment with supplier product roadmaps.
- Troubleshoot complex challenges through innovative data fusion, AI tool sets, and application of expert knowledge to provide our customers with the best charging experience in the industry.
- Work on next generation architectures and power systems to maintain technical advantages that drive down cost and improve reliability.
- Lead or support network models from utility generation through to our variable DC output (250 -1000VDC) that contribute to defining requirements, design topology, component selection, physical layout effects, construction, commissioning and full life-cycle benchmarking. Define, architect, and test power management fail-safe solutions working with both H/W and S/W teams.
- Support NPI, field and commissioning teams in the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of power and signal interconnections between system elements.
- Support power efficiency electrical bench setups and HIL systems to evaluate system power efficiency and calibrate models for efficiency and reliability depending on Volt-Var characteristics, load change scenarios, grid power quality, equipment faults, etc.
- Work closely with other electrical, mechanical, harness, firmware, software, and test engineers to deliver fully functional product solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 4+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting grid tied infrastructure equipment including XFRMs, SWBDs, primary and secondary breakers, cabinet UPS, CTs & VTs, PLCs, RTUs, DCS/SCADA, etc.
- General understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and system reliability.
- Demonstrate mastery of essential power engineering topics including bonding, grounding, fault protection, fault management, arc-flash, arc-blast, ozone impacts to component life-cycle, corrosion, humidity, etc.
- Hands-on technical experience with integrating and debugging complex power systems using power measurement instruments and devices.
- Experience with EMI effects on mixed-signal PCBs, defining correct shielding, grounding approaches and filtering.
- Wire/cable management, termination, and busing for hazardous and high voltage power distribution.
- Ability to perform power system and electrical load analysis, simulation, and testing to determine optimal solutions given granularity of commodity supply sizing.
- High competence using lab test equipment (benchtop power supplies, electronics loads, digital oscilloscopes, DMM, logic/spectrum analyzers, etc.) with familiarity of thermal and EMI test chambers and using basic software debugging tools.
- Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, RS232/422, RS485, USB).
