Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively manage large scale design and installation projects. The ideal candidate will use a first-principles approach to solve engineering problems and design solutions to meet the needs of Tesla. The team is responsible for designing, developing, and installing new manufacturing lines for vehicle, energy, and robots. Through understanding program requirements and collaborating with various cross-functional teams, this team ensures new lines are integrated with other processes and are capable of meeting Tesla’s objectives.
What You'll Do
Collaborate closely with Test Engineering, Process Engineering and Structures Design Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in new programs in the design and validation phasesDuring high volume launching, this role will work on the mechanical joining equipment (SPR, FDS, Bolting, Clinching) installation, commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuring close collaboration with Tesla’s partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortest possible timing and within project budgetsStabilize joining process in high volume manufacturing environment after SOPTake direct responsibility for achieving joining quality targets and leading all activities towards this objective including the development of quality control plans and PFMEAPlan and execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for mechanical joining manufacturability and qualityReview joints strength and related data for quality analysisArrange joining process training for production maintenance teamCollect and prepare the final documentation package to ensure the long-term sustainability and optimization of new production lines
What You'll Bring
Degree or relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering2+ years of related experience developing and launching joining processes in automotive industriesIn-depth understanding and knowledge of joining process, equipment, and metallurgyAble to function independently, be a strong collaborator when working in a team, detail oriented, organized, hands-on and able to make strong decisionsRemain engaged, initiative-taking, positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for their successExtensive proficiency creating written and pictorial documentation of manufacturing processesCollect, analyze, and summarize information to a general understanding, thinking abstractly and separating complex ideas into simple elementsExperience with Robotic and/or adhesive dispensing system is preferableExperienced with AUTOCAD, CATIA 3DX and other similar software/toolsMastery of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Expected Compensation
$85,760 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
