About the Role:
As Ample’s Business Development Executive in Japan, you will help shape and deliver on a strategy for Ample to build mind share and adoption of its electric vehicle swapping technology among automotive, energy and last mile delivery companies and stimulate interest in the investment community. The landscape is vast and complex. You will support Ample’s U.S. Executive team in better understanding this landscape, digging deep to bring data and insight to light that will enable the entire team to optimally engage partners and prospects.
The ideal candidate will possess both a business and technical background that enables them to drive engagement and interact with investors, automotive OEMs, energy companies and deployment partners. He/she should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and work cross-organizationally to build consensus. A keen sense of ownership, drive and creativity is a must! Experience scaling a startup business and/or hardware related products would be considered a significant bonus. What you’ll do:
- The key focus is helping develop and grow the Japanese market for Ample’s modular battery swapping.
- The business development will focus on automotive OEMS (e.g. Honda, Nissan), energy companies, fleet customers (e.g. Yamato, Sagawa), regulators (e.g. METI, MOE), and investors.
- Gather information on markets, industries, companies and investors in Japan and propose collaborative programs / mechanisms that meet the needs of potential partners. In addition, you will create opportunities for collaboration among multiple companies using our company as a platform
- Identify / target strategic prospects and acquire them as clients, expanding the customer base and generating revenue for our product
- Establish / foster strong relationships with C-level executives and key decision-makers in target prospects
- Identify and stimulate interest in Ample’s technology with Japan’s investor community focused on the energy, cleantech and automotive arenas
- Have confidence in our product and be able to contribute to the growth of the business with passion
- Develop a strategic vision of what he/she wants to achieve through the organization, be able to inspire and support team members and demonstrate leadership skills to create results while effectively involving others
- Create and deliver business presentations, in-person, or remotely.
What you’ll bring:
- B.S. or M.S. in an Engineering discipline combined with a Business or MBA degree
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in a Business Development capacity; Candidates with automotive/energy company experience, STRONGLY preferred
- Minimum 5 years of selling technical / hardware related products
- Fluency in both Japanese and English
- Ability to identify key customers combined with demonstrated expertise in building and strengthening relationships with crucial decision-makers
- Proficiency in developing and giving presentations
- Consistent track record of meeting and exceeding sales quotas
- Comfort-level with learning, strategizing, introducing, selling and scaling products
- Exceptional negotiation skills
- Ability to serve as a consultant, with a problem-solving approach
- No fear of hard work
- A high level of independence, self-discipline and self-motivation to continuously deliver even when working independently
- Solid proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Google suite of products
- An ability to travel 25% of the time, domestically. (Occasional travel to US headquarters, as well.)
