New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer - Purchasing (Temporary)
(This role is 100% onsite)
We are actively looking for highly motivated New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer to join the Nikola Supply Chain Team temporarily for up to 3 months. As a member of the NPI team, you will support the scope, timing and cost of new products.
In this role you will be assigned to a program or product group and work closely with the Purchasing, Program Management, Engineering, Quality, Logistics and Manufacturing teams to implement our new products. The NPI team is ultimately responsible for the successful implementation of the program into production.
Responsibilities
- Communicate the project/program deliverables, timeline, forecast and cost targets to Purchasing.
- Coordinate with Engineering to ensure timely release of parts (SOW, drawings and Bill of Materials)
- Work with Global Supply Managers (GSMs) to plan orders, track deliveries, and manage the cost of new products.
- Communicate to Program long lead items for proper timeline management. Highlight risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Support material planning for new parts until supply contracts and scheduling agreements are issued and then transition to production controls.
- Support on managing the Procurement Category and Standard Cost of new products/parts as they are added to the ERP.
- Coordinate with GSMs to ensure timely sourcing milestones are met.
- Track cost targets and identify improvement strategies with GSMs and Engineering.
- Identify and drive improvement of projects/ processes creating tools and voicing solutions.
- Work fluidly in a highly cross-functional team environment.
- Generate and publish performance metrics on the program.
Qualifications
- A desire to impact the world through Nikola's mission.
- Curiosity to learn and ask questions to understand problems and find solutions.
- BS/BA in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or another related field. (a master’s degree is a plus)
- 3-5 years related experience in materials management, production planning, material scheduling, or purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including ability to maintain and enhance Excel-based tools for tracking, analyzing and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks based on demand.
- Ability to present program/project status (purchasing related) effectively in weekly program/executive meetings.
- Awareness of the nature of business/corporate strategy and a great understanding of the appropriateness of different purchasing strategies
- Open-minded, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude
- Self-motivation and resourcefulness.
- Ability to solve problems in a fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision.
- Team Leadership skills
- PMP Certification Desirable
