What To Expect
The candidate will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality Operations at GFTX, supporting materials-level test activities and failure analysis investigations. The position will be based in Austin, Texas within the Materials Test Lab.
What You'll Do
Perform a wide variety of tests on a broad spectrum of materials. Test competence should be exhibited in any of the aspects such as Mechanical Test (sample preparation, torque, tension, compression, shear, hardness, peel, fatigue, and high strain rate testing, etc.), Environmental Test (thermal, humidity, chemical compatibility testing, and thermal shock, etc.), Characterization Test (SEM-EDS, X-Ray CT, XRF, OES, DSC, TGA, FTIR, rheometry and flow characters, optical microscopy, etc.) Independently and accurately complete tests, stratify results and issue reports for approval. Create and manage ‘test incident’ documentation to facilitate and track corrective actions. Management of laboratory assets, ensuring all equipment is maintained, calibrated and serviced. Develop, author and ensure conformance to laboratory standard operating procedures. Support engineering staff in the root cause analysis of test failures and failure analysis workstreams. Support management in the procurement, purchase, and installation of new equipment.
What You'll Bring
Fundamental knowledge of materials-centric automotive test standards and knowledge of any of the following fields, including their manufacturing methods and respective failure modes: polymers, composites, metallurgy, elastomers, glass, paints, electroplated coatings, adhesives, woods and textiles, etc. Experience working with vendors and external test labs. A broad list of contacts in the field of automotive materials testing is highly desirable Experience working with hazardous materials, with a willingness to exhibit and promote health and safety across the team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to establish effective working relationships. An ability to effectively handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and manage time independently; must maintain top level professional integrity and appearance throughout. Knowledge, understanding and a track record of conformance to ISO 17025 is advantageous. Leadership experience with a strong track record of developing others is also highly desirable.
