Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around August/September 2024 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2024) or into Spring 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Access Controls
The access control systems integration engineer is responsible for maintaining our leading position in the industry by providing the most seamless vehicle access control experience to our customers. Engineers are responsible for the overall functionality and performance of keys and security systems throughout the product life cycle. This role will be working with various wireless technologies (for example, BLE, UWB, and NFC) in combination with iOS, Android, and other custom devices, as well as continued optimization of the systems in the context of many vehicle platforms and connected backend services.
Body Controls
Body controls systems integration engineers within the vehicle software organization work side by side with various cross-functional teams to lead the design and development of body controls systems. Engineers are responsible for overall functionality and performance of body controls systems throughout the product life cycle, including doors, trunk, frunk, windows, seating, lighting, mirrors, wipers, heaters, steering wheel controls, and other actuators and sensors.
Low Voltage Power
Low Voltage Power systems integration engineers within the vehicle software organization work side by side with various cross-functional teams to lead the design and development of low voltage power distribution, network management and low voltage battery management systems. Our engineers are leading new technology development for the next generations of Tesla vehicles and are responsible for overall functionality and performance of low voltage power distribution systems throughout product life cycle.
Brakes Integration
Brakes integration engineers coordinate with suppliers and multiple internal teams to develop the brakes actuation system and sensor compatibility with the rest of the vehicle. System functions include boosting driver pedal inputs, performing autonomous braking, and executing anti-lock brake and stability controls. Engineers are responsible for all aspects of the braking system and will touch a wide range of topics including inter-ECU communication interfaces, manufacturing and service procedures, bench testing, and in-vehicle tuning.
Chassis Controls
The Chassis Controls team is responsible for in-house traction and stability control development. This team encompasses everything from embedded software development to in-vehicle development and validation at test sites to simulation and vehicle dynamics.
Factory Firmware
The Factory Firmware Team is focused on software and integration engineering in support of manufacturing and new product introduction. This will include projects to create or improve integration tools, as well as tasks to investigate vehicle software improvements in the manufacturing environment. It is important that this person is excited about learning new skills and systems and has strong collaboration skills.
Thermal Systems
Thermal Systems manage the temperature of critical powertrain systems like the battery, drive units and charger. Tesla has developed very sophisticated industry leading thermal management systems for our vehicles and this role will focus on heating and cooling of the powertrain and cabin to deliver peak performance and efficiency. The thermal system integration engineer will lead initiatives to make the system more robust and fault tolerant, introduce new hardware pedigrees, enable new features, increase performance and refine the overall system.
Drive Systems
Drive Systems encompasses all aspects of safe and precise torque production. This includes integration of autopilot features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, smooth and safe application of power to the wheels, hill hold and one pedal driving, thermal management and the overall mapping of drive power request to motor power. The drive systems integration engineer will be responsible for ensuring firmware maturity for new hardware introductions.
Charging & Power Conversion
Charging & Power conversion devices enable our vehicles to convert AC power from the grid to high voltage DC for charging the battery. The charging system must do this efficiently and reliably in any region of the world under a wide variety of conditions. It must also coordinate with Tesla energy storage systems as part of an holistic energy management strategy. This area of responsibility also includes power conversion devices such as the vehicle's DCDC converter that provides low voltage power to operate all of the electronic devices in the vehicle. Finally, high power DC charging through Tesla's global supercharging network or 3rd party stations is a critical enabler for broad electric vehicle adoption. This role will also lead initiatives to optimize DC fast charging and improve the customer experience.
Battery Management Systems
Battery Management Systems (BMS) are comprised of the controllers and firmware that monitor the battery, ensure it is delivering the most power and energy possible while maximizing capacity retention over life. BMS integration engineers are responsible for the performance of algorithms that predict available power and energy, and functions that ensure optimal charging, effective thermal management and high voltage safety monitoring.

Currently working towards a degree Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field Proficiency in PythonComprehension of C/C++ or other relevant integration software languagesExperience with electronic circuits and analysis, testing, and debugging microcontroller / embedded / electromechanical projectsKnowledge of embedded systems and CAN or communication protocolsExperience with low power wireless networks, preferably Bluetooth Low Energy or Ultra Wide Band Familiarity with vehicle dynamics/hydraulics is a plusFSAE, Hyperloop or Solar Car or similar student team experience is a plusHands-on technical experience debugging complex systems involving networked microprocessors, communication interfaces like CAN, and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devices is a plus

Expected Compensation
$36.06 - $50.48/hour + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
