What You'll Do
Your application for the Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware Internship will be considered across all opportunities for the teams listed below:
Authentication & Keys
Interns on this team would be doing software development for test infrastructure on our Authentication and Keys Team in the scope of Vehicle Software. Vehicle access control is a critical user facing system providing cutting edge user experiences like auto presenting doors, phone key and cloud key management. It is both crucial and challenging to design exhaustive test plans that exercise the full gamut of user behaviors and failure modes. It is also closely linked with the growing needs of autonomy and vehicle access needs. You will be challenged to think out of the box to bring up validation infrastructure while maintaining scalability, reliability, and efficiency. Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable embedded systems using cutting edge software development tools and practices.
Factory Firmware
This is a hybrid position requiring both system-level automation & validation with a focus on integrating vehicle firmware into manufacturing environments. The core responsibility of this role is to oversee testing and advise on the firmware (or change) quality leveraging our validation tools, analyze the data find trends, provide feedback to R&D engineering, work with the validation team to improve automation pipelines, and execute regression testing at the component, subsystem, and vehicle levels prior to firmware release into manufacturing. The scope of responsibility includes some software development, hands-on design of HIL and SIL systems, attention to detail, and ensuring safe and quality firmware to support manufacturing requirements.
Low Voltage
Interns will help develop methods to simulate vehicle, environmental, and user behaviors at system-level to guide future product development and raise the quality of existing firmware releases. This is an opportunity to work in an innovative automation lab environment with a team dedicated to building software, hardware, and mechanical solutions to automate system-level tests. The ideal candidate is proficient in Python, system-level troubleshooting, automation tools, hardware debug/design, and firmware development. Areas we cover include Low Voltage Network Management, Lithium-Ion and Lead-Acid Battery Management, Functional Safety Concepts, and Security and Authentication.
Body Controls
The body controls firmware team is responsible for firmware, sensing, and controls of mechatronics systems in Tesla vehicles. These systems include falcon wing doors, seats, liftgates, windows, latches, wipers, mirrors, various sensing systems, interior and exterior lighting, and control of other small motors in the vehicle. The team is small, passionate, and fast moving. As a validation intern you will design exhaustive automated test cases that run in both software and hardware in the loop test fixtures. This work requires collaborating with software, hardware, and integration engineers. Your test cases will be added to a suite of regression tests you will help maintain and execute to validate each release of vehicle software. To assist with test execution, you will develop and maintain test infrastructure that automates test execution, result collection, and result analysis.
Crash Safety
The Crash Safety Firmware team is looking for a Validation Intern to design and maintain a Hardware in the Loop (HIL) tester, as well as: develop validation software, test cases, infrastructure, and tools to validate safety-critical embedded firmware and application software. You will support software releases, sign off on regression tests, design the infrastructure to execute these tests, and work with a world-class team to deliver high-quality software releases. This is a unique opportunity to build innovative infrastructure, tooling, automation, validation systems, and more while applying your creativity without constraints!
Systems Validation
The Systems Validation Team is seeking interns who will be responsible for ensuring firmware for new vehicle features and new hardware are designed, implemented and tested to achieve Tesla’s standards for safety and customer experience. The intern will develop robust validation strategies and deliver automated solutions to execute those strategies efficiently and repeatedly, thus enabling rapid iteration and evolution of Tesla’s vehicle systems. Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable and motivated engineers that strive to build the most robust, performant and reliable vehicles in the world, using cutting edge software and hardware development tools and practices.
What You'll Bring
