What You'll Do
Qualified applicants may be reviewed by one or more of the following teams:
Machine Vision Inspection Systems
This role will invent, develop, scale up and optimize Machine Vision Inspection Systems and methods for battery manufacturing within a cross-functional engineering team. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial concept through into full production.
Machine Vision Cell Manufacturing
The vision systems (cameras, profilometers, displacement sensors, detection sensors, etc.) that we deploy will focus on inspecting the quality of manufactured cells. Our team’s goal is to move the world towards sustainability by creating the manufacturing systems necessary for Tesla to produce batteries. The ideal candidate has demonstrated an interest in computer and industrial systems, especially cameras.
Cell Manufacturing Engineering
The machine vision engineering intern collaborates with members of design, production, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to improve our most-difficult manufacturing processes and equipment through machine vision applications, data analysis, experimentation, and modeling to drive tangible optimizations to the production environment.
Cell Assembly Manufacturing team
The primary project this individual will be responsible for will be to design, implement, and streamline the vision inspection development process. This will include four primary responsibilities. First is designing flexible and universal mechanical fixtures to aid with the early vision system testing. Second, sourcing flexible lighting and lensing solutions that can cover over 90% of use cases in cell manufacturing to. Third, cut down time lost to hardware lead time. Writing simple programs/scripts for image acquisition and basic image processing to automate the hardware evaluation process. And fourth, ocumenting the standard procedures for hardware testing for the prototyping process.
Industrial Machine Vision Software Development
The intern will work on developing new features for this highly optimized Tesla built software used on the cell manufacturing production lines. This software must efficiently grab, analyze, and save images of cells in milliseconds, 24/7. On top of fixing bugs and adding new features, the intern will be tasked with optimizing certain vision inspections.
