What You'll Do
Your application for cell Cell Engineering Process and Production Engineer Internships will be considered across all opportunities for the teams listed below:
Process Development Engineering Team is at the frontier of the company, responsible for implementing and scaling Tesla’s ability to manufacture 4680 form factor battery cells. High level tasks of the team include developing and testing processes, designing equipment, installing, and ramping new production lines, and troubleshooting manufacturing issues that affect production and quality targets. This specific role will be for an intern in the team, who will work across subset of the above tasks while being guided by their mentor. The Engineering Process Team in cell manufacturing engineering group is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineering Intern to accelerate our next-generation battery cell manufacturing program. This role will support the process development of specialized battery electrode calendaring, lamination, and slitting equipment. In this position, the Process Engineering Intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers and the production team to realize high quality, efficient and reliable equipment and processes. Apply their technical skill to have innovative solutions for the process and quality improvement, problem-solving to achieve high yield, downtime reduction, and production ramp-up. This is a hands-on position working with equipment and data. The Assembly Process Engineering Team's primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality products through the continual improvement of process and product quality and the systems that surround them. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at their core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, and have the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continual improvement, personally and professionally.Electrode Process Development team is looking for a highly motivated and passionate researcher to work on disruptive cutting-edge battery electrode technology that enables Tesla electric vehicles and energy storage systems. This role will be heavily hands on, executing engineering DOE, obtaining quality results, processing large amount of data in order to correlate binder evolution under various operating conditions to rheology of the resulting powders. By the end of the internship, the candidate is expected to fully develop a feasible metrology to quantify different phases of binder evolution.Electrode Production Engineering team comprises Foil Coating, Cal-Lam, Slitting, and Pilot Tools operations. We are currently scaling with new technology creating multiple opportunities to accelerate the plant ramp plan with high yields and quality production. The Electrode Production Engineering Intern will work with full time engineers, production staff, quality, and equipment technicians to improve quality, production, and safety. The Formation Process Development Team works within the process development team to design trials to evaluate and improve the formation process. Collaborate with design teams to ensure trials are executed and tracked efficiently. Prescribe cell rework and recoveries. Analyze, interpret, present, and communicate experimental data to cross-functional teams. Formal problem solving (8D, root cause analysis) for manufacturing processes. Statistical process control implementation.Mixing Process Engineer team is on the forefront of bringing dry battery electrode manufacturing technology and the 4680 battery cell to high volume production - making substantial contribution to the acceleration of sustainable energy. Join a team of talented and driven engineers to evaluate and internally develop mixing systems that enable advances in throughput, quality, performance, and cost in Dry Battery Electrode Manufacturing. Work to develop and standardize the next generation of mass-production scale mixing systems. Collaborate closely with our global manufacturing engineering team, engage with the wider crossfunctional cell engineering team working on future factory design. Expect engaging technical problems, diverse work activities, and the opportunity to impact critical problems.
