Job Summary
The EHS Technician I is responsible for supporting the execution of EHS program elements in support of the company’s ISO-45001, Safety Management System (SMS), and ISO-14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) goals. Additionally, this role will be required to help and maintain active communication with management and other employees about all job-related tasks and consult with the EHS Lead Technician, EHS Supervisor/Manager, as necessary.
Essential Duties
- Have the passion and the right attitude to promote a culture of safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout PENA
- Learn the layout of the facility and the various production processes; be under the supervision of EHS Technician II/III or Lead on majority of tasks
- Learn the EHS processes and how to use EHS equipment, tools, and reporting systems (ex: gas monitors, sound meters, etc), tools, and reporting systems
- Learn and conduct audit and inspection processes relating to eyewash, emergency showers, and fire extinguishers
- Educate themselves about various EHS training courses and topics
- Walk various processes and environments; build relationships with employees; become familiar with various machines, equipment, and production processes
- Learn about recordability, various types of cases, and how to file cases properly
- Respond to incidents (injuries, near misses, property damages, etc), implement containment actions, and gather information for incident investigation purposes
- Able to spot, report, and prevent incidents on site; Communicate clearly and interactively with employees and coach them
- Write EHS incident reports, daily, monthly, annually
- Learn and support various Behavior Based Programs to promote proactive solutions
- Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 6S practices
- Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to reduce costs and add value to the organization
- Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the EHS Supervisor or Senior EHS Staff
- Proactively identify and act on opportunities to continuously improve
- Perform additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by EHS management.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements
- To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a must and includes equipment such as safety shoes, clean suit, dust mask or respirator, gloves, safety glasses/safety goggles, hair net etc. In some instances, a full Tyvek Suite is required for some areas.

Qualifications
Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education
- Basic/Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Biology, Chemistry, or related science or technical field from an accredited college or university
Essential Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
- Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
- Have solid listening and communication skills and be adaptable
- Ability to interact and create cohesion with other team members
- Must have the ability to deal with complexity/ambiguity
- Must be personable and exhibit professionalism
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Certification(s)
- OSHA 10 hr. 30 certification or NVOSHA Safety and Health Practitioner Certificate or equivalent experience
