The Lead Fastener Engineer position plays a critical role by overseeing the design of joints and bolts, cradle to grave, for our Chassis Group and others, interfacing with all systems and subsystems, dealing with the entire parts, assembly, Cab and Chassis. This position will take ownership in the design and drives the work forward for all of our vehicle programs.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop joints and fastener across the entire vehicle;
- Assist designer in selection of fasteners and joint analysis;
- Conduct joint analysis and validation in addition to establishing fastener catalog standard to develop a robust mechanical joining strategy for the vehicle;
- Contribute with CAE team to specify load, determine stress limits and improve fastener analysis method;
- Perform bolts analysis to optimize robustness and minimize the cost of redesign;
- Support DRE in joint and recommend fastener based on adhesive, finishes and strength requirements;
- Commonization of fasteners towards manufacturing-friendly solutions;
- Cost effective fastener selection across the company based on best advanced manufacturing practices;
- Manage the creation & maintenance of CAD & drawings (using CATIA v6);
- Perform testing and develop design of experiments on cooperation with external test-house facility;
- Support CAE and Design Engineers with testing results and testing oversight;
- Track progress of fastener selection, release, and validation;
- Support supplier technical objectives; and Investigate and implement the latest fastener technologies.
- Occasional travel domestically and internationally to customer sites and supplier sites to verify fastening activities for fasteners test performance and fastener suppliers (up to 25% total travel time).
Qualifications
- Master's Degree or higher in Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline, or the foreign equivalent thereof;
- 48 months of automotive OEM or supplier experience with fastener engineering.
- Minimum experience must include experience with fasteners (bolted and no bolted) and the automotive quality standards (PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, GD&T and Packaging);
- with joint analysis based on CAE analysis results;
- with fastener selection and recommendation;
- with fastener joint design release review;
- using CAD modeling and drafting modules to create, release and maintain fasteners;
- with Fastening Standard VDI2230 for joint calculations.
- Required experience may be acquired prior to, during, or after obtaining Master's Degree.
