Position Responsibilities
Employee Training and Awareness
- Within one year complete Quality-related modules from the Gemba Academy for a Level II
Quality Inspector
- Be an active participant in quality-related improvement activities with cross-functional team members as needed.
- Work with all levels of associates to learn all assembly and test processes from raw materials to Start-up and EOL completion.
- Read drawings and use gages and other inspection and measuring equipment to properly assess in-line assemblies at various stages of completion, collect and electronically store associated data as needed.
- Be a participant in CI and learning across all functional areas through training and communication of Quality initiatives.
- In time, be recognized as a go-to person for manufacturing personnel for solutions to acceptability of product and/or processes.
Build Quality into the Manufacturing Process
- Conduct in-line inspections and validations by Production work instructions as necessary.
- Communicate findings to manufacturing personnel and/or Assembly Lead in a clear, concise, timely manner.
- Makes Quality decisions about suspect parts and assemblies including disposition.
- Using core tools provides a proactive approach to building quality into the process rather than inspecting for quality.
- Assist in the development of assembly fixturing and gaging.
- Assist with the development of Poke-yoke (mistake-proofing) processes through manufacturing.
- Adhere to the QMS such as control plans, PPAP, FMEA, calibrations, etc.
- Conducted and maintained the internal inspection program throughout the manufacturing process.
- Assist the calibration program on gages, torque wrenches, air tools, etc.
- Adhere to compliance with nationally recognized standards such as ISO, ASME, etc.
- Be a support to the internal product groups, management, new product development, and engineering as required.
Problem Troubleshooting
- Field Incidents, Internal Incidents, Supplier Incidents Corrective Action report investigations . Participate with cross-functional team to develop internal resolution of manufacturing non-conformances to prevent recurrence.
- Support investigation of product quality problems, determine root cause, gather, and analyze data and implement corrective action to reduce or eliminate cause.
- Identifies opportunities and communicates with Quality Engineers for change requests to process engineering related to drawing corrections, product assembly problems, etc.
- Assist in the tracking and measurement of First Pass Yield and the development of action plans for improvement.
- Be part of the first-line reaction force for Customer Complaints and coordinate quarantine and containment processes as necessary in a timely, effective manner
Continuous Improvement/Lean Enterprise
- Develop and implement best practices leading to improvements in lean manufacturing concepts and product quality.
- Support the implementation of the 5-S workplace organization processes in the plant through direct project involvement and through fellow team members.
- Establish and utilize frameworks and systems, including tools such as visual management, problem-solving, standard work, and kaizen.
- Ability to cooperate and commit in a team environment to achieve goals and deliverables.
- Resolve difficult or complicated challenges using the problem-solving process.
Position Qualifications
Required: 3-4 years experience in a manufacturing environment and to be able to develop into a Quality Inspector III within 18 months. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft suite of tools
Preferred: 4 years + experience in Quality related work, preferably within an automotive manufacturing environment. Intermediate understanding and usage of Quality core tools such as Inspection Checklists, Control Plans, and inspection SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). Analytical and problem-solving skills along with effective verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.
Ideal Candidates Will Also Have
Background in either sheet metal manufacturing, welding, powder coating paint systems and/or electrical & electronic component assembly a plus. Ability to comprehend drawings.
