In this position…
The Electrified Powertrain D&R Engineer will own the design, release, packaging, and certification of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) for future model battery electric vehicle (BEV) programs. We are looking for someone who can work effectively with various functions of a vehicle program team, that is proactive, self-motivated, and pays attention to detail. They must also have strong teamwork, organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills with the ability to progress design solutions while delivering the best compatibility with vehicle targets. The selected candidate will gain experience working with Studio on Class A parts, collaborate with multiple teams, drive future product development, and be part of the growing field of vehicle electrification!
- This is a Hybrid role based out of Dearborn, MI.
Responsibilities
What you'll do…
- Lead EVSE design, release, and testing for next generation electrified vehicles.
- Lead packaging (including enclosure) and appearance design efforts together with supplier partner, including any necessary AAR.
- Coordinate features and deliverables with the Applications Team.
- Release core components in FEDE BOM and WERS and drawing/model updates from P-release through launch, working with as-installed engineers and supporting change control as needed, report program achievement deliverables.
- Manage Component Design Specifications (CDS) and Design Change Requests (DCR).
- Participate in Design Reviews and Worst-Case Circuit Analysis.
- Work with EDS and OBC teams for proper interfaces.
- Handle quality foundation documents including Quality History, DFMEA, PFMEA, SCCAF, RCL/RDM, DVP&R, (refer to FMA).
- Phased PPAP process support through supplier visits and sign off.
- Support Supplier PPAP process through visits and document review (Control Plan and PFMEA). Understand/support/review/approve PPAP elements such as MSA (GRR), Control Charts, and Capability.
- Support launch of vehicle programs, vehicle testing, offboard testing, regulatory testing, homologation testing, and other Trustmark testing.
- Support GPDS builds and AIMS resolution with suppliers.
- Evaluate electrical system engineering alternatives for various attributes, including cost, weight, package, quality, benchmarking, geometry creation and functional analysis.
- Collaborate with various multi-functional organizations in jointly identifying the prime alternative recommendation delivering the best compatible solution for quality, cost, weight, and function.
- Work with a team comprised of Tier 1 suppliers, purchasing/STA, manufacturing, attribute teams, interfacing teams, and vehicle team.
- Responsible for production warranty investigation and Assembly plant returns/failures with suppliers to drive containment and elimination of early warranty.
- Problem solving, development of countermeasures, containment actions, corrective actions, and prevent recurrence actions.
- Oral and written communication and Presentation skills to Lead Technical Design Review items before Managers, Chief Engineers and Directors demonstrating component knowledge and technical capability.
- Lead benchmarking efforts for core components, present findings and analyze EVSE architectures and features.
- Work with other core engineers on authoring DVMs and perform the necessary bench and on vehicle testing to ensure component and vehicle operation to requirements.
Qualifications
You'll have…
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering)
- Experience (2+ years) with electrical component design development process and vehicle charging experience or strong Ford Product Design and Release experience.
- Previous design and release experience through all program phases in related field.
- Working level knowledge of CAD/CAE methods.
- Experience with developing quality documentation (DVP&R, P-diagrams, DFMEA’s etc.)
- Experience with problem solving tools (8D, 3L5W, etc)
- Knowledge of high voltage automotive systems and electric and/or hybrid electric vehicle systems.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail.
- Strong teamwork, organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills, able to effectively interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to handle multiple assignments with competing priorities.
Even better, you may have…
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- Experience (2+ years) in electrical component design and release and/or electrical systems engineering.
- Understand basic electrical code requirements.
- Experience (2+ years) with electric vehicles and/or charging systems either at the system or component level.
- Ability to coordinate CAD and CAE support.
- Experience in Ford WERS/FEDE/AIMS/GPDS/Integrator systems.
