Position OverviewThe Navistar San Antonio Manufacturing Plant is a benchmark facility that builds leading-edge commercial vehicles to meet the needs of today’s – and tomorrow’s – customers. By using proven engineering and leading technology and manufacturing principles, Navistar takes mobility and transport to a new level of impact. This facility has the flexibility to build Class 6-8 trucks along with Electric Vehicles that allow Navistar to add capacity to support anticipated industry growth.
Using the Internet of Things (IoT) and connected manufacturing principles, Navistar's newest manufacturing facility will continue growing our market share gains, optimizing our supplier network and improving quality.
We are currently seeking a Senior Controls Engineer for our newest manufacturing facility in San Antonio. The primary role of the Senior Controls Engineer will be that of subject matter expert to the program team on all shop floor controls system integrations.
Responsibilities- Assist in the development of concept and specifications for the procurement and implementation of the Controls network
- Interface with IT group as Control subject matter expert for strategy and implementation discussions
- Review and adapt existing or create new machine specifications to satisfy program requirements for shop floor controls functionality and integration with existing systems
- Develop electrical and controls specifications documents for new equipment. Ensure compliance to specifications at integrator sites, and support installation, startup, and commissioning at Navistar plant locations in the U.S. and Mexico
- Direct involvement in spec development, vendor selection, design reviews, and equipment buy-off of new or retooled equipment
- Overseeing equipment installation activities, including coordination with plant technical services and vendor provided installation resources
- Support as-built drawing markups and modification of existing electrical drawings for equipment modifications
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 2 years of product manufacturing experience

- At least 4 years of product manufacturing experience
Additional RequirementsQualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills- 2+ years direct involvement with shop floor assembly process control, motion control and material handling, error proofing, data collection systems in a production environment
- Experience in Rockwell Automation hardware and software (ControlLogix, PanelView, etc) including the ability to analyze and/or modify existing code or generate complex code from scratch
- Project management experience – managing Gantt or MasterDot project tracking and reporting tools
- Working level familiarity with SQL database integration and configuration
- Experience with assembly systems within automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturing
- Machine Building and/or Assembly Automation experience
- Past deployment of MES systems
- Experience working with PC based process control systems
