We’re currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Chassis engineering team. In this role you will lead the analysis, design, validation, and release of Structures (Frames/Subframes, Structural Support Systems, Brackets, Castings, and Bolted Joints).
ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and validation teams on the complete life cycle of the project through product launch, and implementation of lessons learned on subsequent products (cradle-to-cradle responsibility)
- Apply fundamental physics to lead the progression of design maturity from initial concept to product launch, to next concept
- Lead resolution of design, attribute or packaging incompatibilities through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Generate 3D CAD models and model based definition attributes using CATIA 3DX software
- Generate and review 2D drawings
- Implement resolutions to all validation issues
- Support the Purchasing team in sourcing and RFQ activities
- Support the Manufacturing team for vehicle launch, pre-production and production builds
QualificationsYou have:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, MET, Automotive Engineering or in a related field
- 3+ years automotive industry mechanical, design or product development experience
- Exceptional engineering first principles and solid mechanics fundamentals
- Proven experience in development of complex mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, DFSS, DFA, DFM, APQP, VAVE and problem resolution (8D, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.)
- Engineering knowledge of defined requirements and validation of component(s) / system(s) design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirements, testing, and validation
- Working knowledge of automotive structures manufacturing techniques
- Strong CAD skills & experience, preferably CATIA 3DX, V5
- Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VBA experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of metals and their physical properties
- Experience performing FEA and interpreting results
- Strong verbal & written communication
